Dr. Blanton has 25 plus years of experience helping individuals, teams and organizations become more effective, efficient and vital.  Her work assists them develop and implement activities and strategies that support their organizational She uses her research knowledge, business experience, psychological training and sense of humor to support and challenge leaders to stretch their thinking and performance. Her clients, within the US and internationally, have included a broad range of organizations including Fortune 100 companies, non-profit organizations and high-tech start-ups.

Her focus has been on C-Suite executives and high potential leaders.  She has worked with corporate and non-profit organizations helping with the selection, transition and evaluation of the CEO.  She has helped boards improve their functioning and address complex internal issues.  Dr. Blanton is noted for her attention to understanding the relation of the individual to the organizational culture and goals. She coaches senior executives to reach their potential as leaders and has assisted faltering leaders address issues that have limited their effectiveness.

She has helped dozens of teams deal with conflict and improve their communication, alignment and performance. She has been involved in research that has aided in leadership transition, the acceleration of the effective integration of new executives, and change implementation.  When she is asked to evaluate individuals, programs and organizations she uses assessments to improve performance not merely identify problems.  Her strong organizational, business and psychological training provide depth and context to her coaching.  Part of her practice is “shadow consulting” in which she supports and coaches other consultants and coaches.  

Prior to founding Blanton Consulting, Dr. Blanton was a Partner with the well-respected consulting firm of RHR International, LLC and served as Managing Director of their Los Angeles Office.   She has worked as an executive in a research firm and as college professor.  Dr. Blanton received her bachelor’s and doctoral degree from the University of Texas in Austin and holds an Advanced Management Program Certificate from the University of Southern California’s School of Business.  She is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA), formerly chaired the APA Board of Professional Affairs in and currently serves on its Council of Representatives.  Dr. Blanton served as President of APA’s Division of Consulting Psychology and is a recipient of its Outstanding Service Award. She currently sits on the editorial board of the Consulting Psychology Journal and was a past recipient of its Most Outstanding Article Award.  She received the award for Distinguished Service in I-O and Consulting from the California Psychological Association in and, later, it’s top honor, the Silver Chi award.  At its annual meeting in August 2015, Judy received an APA Presidential Citation for her contribution to the field in which she was called the “Coach’s Coach”.  She has written over thirty professional articles and chapters, co-authored two books and is a regular presenter at professional and business meetings and conferences.  Her latest research interest is on power dynamics in organizations.
